Paulsgrove is an area of northern Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. Paulsgrove existed as a small hamlet on the old Portsmouth to Southampton road for many years. Towards the end of World War II Portsmouth City Council developed housing to replace those homes destroyed by bombing. As part of this programme, land in Paulsgrove was purchased and building began in 1945. The initial housing was prefabricated but later houses were built more conventionally.


Paulsgrove is a residential area built up with prefabricated properties and modern builds. There are a number local convenience stores and a large Tescoís just a short car journey away.


There is relatively little with regards to shopping. There is a couple of local convenience stores and a large superstore either a bus or car journey away. The nearest shopping area would be Cosham High street.

Pubs, Bars & Restaurants - there are a number of locally run pubs such as the rusty cutter. However for a good night out itís a short taxi journey to Port Solent where you have 15 places to choose from along with a cinema and shopping mall.

Community Centre - The community centre has a number of facilities and activities for all ages ranging from bowls to fit club for the younger generation. There are also gym facilities and cafe if you just want to relax.


Road - Pauls grove is located just off the A27 leading to the main motorway  M275.

Train - The train station in Paulsgrove is no longer active. However, there is two stations near with regular trains ñ Porchester & Cosham

Buses - there are 3 main buses routes in Pauls grove the main stops are by Paulsgrove shops and by the Ports down Inn. All with frequent bus services including Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Places of Interest...

  • Wymering Manor - The manor was mentioned in the in the Domesday Book and there are parts of the current building which contain medieval and roman materials. Its first recorded occupant was William Mauduit, who probably came across with the invasion of 1066 from his Normandy home.
  • The majority of the current building is 16th century in construction. Spread over three floors, it consists of several dining and sitting rooms and a large music room/salon and impressive front hall on the ground floor.
  • Wymering Manor is linked with St Peter & St Paul Church and churchyard, which is the last resting place for Jane Austinís brother, Vice Admiral Sir Francis Austen, and his family. There have been many and well-documented owners of the manor including kings, nobles, clerics and artists, and reportedly a large number of ghosts.
  • Latterly the manor passed into the ownership of Portsmouth City Council, which leased it to the Youth Hostel Association. In January 2013 the council officially handed Wymering Manor over to the Wymering Manor Trust
  • IBM - home to the UK headquarters of IBM UK Ltd. The site known as 'North Harbour' was built in the 70's, the location being selected due to the job cuts by the Royal Navy during the time.
